About Us
A few years ago frustrated with, struggling to find clothes that would fit me in the style that I liked, I decided that it was time I learnt how to make my own clothes. I enrolled in a few learning to sew classes that were held once a week, in the evenings, at a local school. This was the most affordable option, available to me, at the time. Enthusiastic to learn how to sew, I purchased a pattern and fabric and attended the course.
Although I found the classes enjoyable, it was also an exercise in frustration, having to share one Tutor between ten or more students at the same time, all of who were working on different projects and at various levels of skill. When I did have the Tutor’s attention, I found I only had a couple of minutes of her time for her to tell me the next step that needed to be done before she would have to move to another student and so on. After six weeks I had completed my dress. However, I found that when I attempted to sew the dress again, at a later date, I had forgotten most of what I had been taught and couldn’t repeat the process.
Still eager to learn how to sew I decided I would visit my local sewing supply store to see if they stocked sewing instructional DVD’s, they did not, in fact, I could not find a sewing instructional DVD in any retail store. It was then that I decided that would be a great idea, to create a range of step-by-step instructional DVD’s or Downloads so someone like myself could learn to sew from the comfort of their own home. It would be like having the Tutor right there with you, instead of having to wait for five minutes of the Tutor’s time, you would be able to fast forward, rewind or pause the class, whenever you liked and it would cost only a fraction of the price of sewing classes.
After a lot of hard work, determination and having the good fortune of gaining the endorsement of McCalls Pattern Service Pty Ltd, finding amazing people to work with such as Jennette Buffett and Sandra Fary (who are my expert sewers), the continual support and encouragement of some special friends and family and the invaluable advice and support of Martyn Smith (Sales & Marketing Manager, Australia, McCalls Pattern Service Pty Ltd), my idea has finally become a reality.
My goal is to grow the range so Learner Sewers have a variety of patterns/DVD’s and Downloads to choose from.
